First H1N1 Case in Malaysia

The Health Ministry of Malaysia reported the country’s first influenza A (H1N1) case today (15th May 2009). This confirmation came one day after the MOH announced that there is no H1N1 case in Malaysia.

A 21-year-old student who was admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh was tested positive for influenza A (H1N1). He returned from the United States on May 13th and developed fever, sore throat and body ache on May 14th before being admitted to the hospital on the same day. Currently, he was under stable condition and has been treated with antiviral.

As a precautionary measure, the ministry would contact the student’s family members who have been in contact with him. The ministry advised all passengers and crews on the MH091 flight from Newark, US that landed in Malaysia on May 13th at 7.15am to contact 03-88810200 / 03-88810300 for further action.
