Beliawanis reaches out

By YENG AI CHUN

KUALA LUMPUR: Beliawanis, the Young Women’s Bureau of MCA, has created a blog to reach out to young Malaysians.
The blog address is http://beliawanis.blogspot.com and the movement welcomed feedback, Beliawanis chief Tee Hooi Leng said yesterday.

She said Beliawanis would be undergoing rebranding by highlighting economic matters, raising political awareness of young women and touching on issues affecting the youths. It used to take up social issues.

Tee said this year’s line-up of Beliawanis state leaders reflected the new direction of the bureau.“Last time, at least 80% of our committee members are educated in Chinese. This year, we have a more diverse pool of members, some are English educated and not that fluent in Mandarin,” she said, adding that the bureau had also lowered its membership age limit to 35 from 40.

To kick start the year with its new outlook, Beliawanis is organising a seminar on business solutions and strategies to survive the current economic downturn.
Entitled “From Cold, Wet Fish to Sushi!,” the seminar will feature business change expert from Britain, Dr Ted Jones, and speakers from the Shangri La group and Singapore Airlines.

Wanita MCA chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, who was also present at a press conference in Wisma MCA here yesterday, said: “This is the first project of the year by Beliawanis and it is in-line with our plan of transformation after the March 8 election.”

Organising chairman Jessica Lai May Kum said 600 seats are available on a first come first served basis. The seminar will be held at Wisma MCA on Jan 19.
