Pregnant wife thrown out by education department

The following letter was posted by a reader in Malaysiakini.com with reference made to Wanita MCA for not taking action on the alleged decision by PPD Hulu Langat to withdraw appointment of a pregnant women as Untrained Substitute Teacher (GSTT).

I forwarded the letter to Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun who was shocked as neither she nor anyone of us were aware of such issue until now. We were not approached nor informed about problem and would not have done nothing, as claimed by the author.

On Thursday, 12 March 2009, I wrote to the Editor of Malaysiakini.com and requested for the author to contact us. We believe that women must be accorded fair treatment at work and in the community but we cannot act on En Mohd Izwan's complaint unless he comes forward with further details. Even if the matter is resolved or is being handled by Wanita PKR, it is still a stumbling block in the efforts to seek equality for women in Malaysia.

We wish to meet Encik Mohd Izwan and his wife but due to privacy issues, we are unable to contact him directly. The Malaysiakini.com editor has forwarded my contact details to Encik Mohd Izwan and we can only hope to hear from him, soon.
